Wie van deze twee is de ware Nederlander, Lou Manche. (who is the true Dutchman)

1943, Lou Manche. Recruitment poster for the Waffen SS

Measurements: 82 * 59.5 CM.

The ‘true Dutchman’ is not the ‘Sorry-lout’ standing behind the tough SS man who refuses to fight a life-and-death battle against Bolshevism. The ‘weakling’ wears a sawn-off dime with the portrait of the exiled Queen Wilhelmina on his lapel and a tie featuring the Dutch lion. The matchstick in his buttonhole refers to sympathy for the royal family.

The Propaganda Council of the Department of Public Information and Arts (DVK) was negative about this poster but noted: “In general, this poster is considered very ugly, although it has surprisingly been found to attract much more attention than expected.”

NSB propaganda film

Check out this original WW2 NSB propaganda movie. In this movie the same theme is used of the "True Dutchman" (in the eyes of the NSB) and the 'Sorry-Laut' who does nothing more than complain....
