A Name from the Darker Chapters: Feenstra

Original photograph of J.E. Feenstra, Heerbanleider of the WA in The Hague. In May he was transferred to Arnhem, where he became head of the Marechaussee for the Arnhem region.

He was notorious and feared for his fanatical pursuit of resistance members and Jews.

Format: 13 × 18 cm

After the war, he was sentenced to death and executed in Arnhem on 29 August 1946.

Photograph likely taken in December 1940.

PS: I have never found this photograph  in any archive in the Netherlands to date.
