JOHANNES VAN ARDENNE, 23-9-1920 / 6-9-1943

To the next of kin of a deceased volunteer, a death plaque bearing name and dates was presented as thanks for his service. Usually, an obituary appeared in a newspaper (mostly Volk en Vaderland).

His death was announced in VoVa on December 3, 1943 — long after his passing on September 6, 1943. Therefore, he does not appear in the list of fallen in the NSB Almanac of 1944. The submission came too late for the printer.

Note: According to the inscription on the plaque, he was nearly 23 years old, but the obituary states 19 years. Such errors were common.
