Frontzorg: Care for Front Soldiers

Solidarity with Front Soldiers

Due to the battles at the front, especially in Russia, many soldiers were wounded and/or felt very lonely. The situation of many Dutchmen who fought in German service was not exactly rosy. The hardships were great, not only because of the fierce resistance from the Russians, the unexpected attacks by partisans, but also due to the often bitter cold, the enormous swarms of mosquitoes, primitive accommodations, etc.

Far from home and for a long time, the men longed for their leave, which often turned out to be a disappointment, partly because of the rejecting attitude of most Dutch people. For physical and mental support, FRONTZORG was established as a part of the NSB with a great degree of independence.

Collections were held, various activities such as theater, film, and communal meals were organized, and with several posters, FRONTZORG was brought to public attention. The front newspaper FRONTZORG was published, in which it was clearly stated how much the men at the front needed goods such as cigarettes, etc., but most of all, contact. Naturally, preferably with a nice girl or woman!

Under the motto: FRONTZORG IS A DUTY OF HONOR, a strong appeal was made for solidarity with the front-line fighters. The headquarters of FRONTZORG was located in Rotterdam, Zeemansstraat 14 (see original documentation).
