Mussert controversy
Anti‑NSB Wall Photo
Original photo by the photographer Branse. In mid‑1941 he made a photo report in The Hague of walls that had been defaced with inscriptions directed against the NSB. The perpetrators came from the NSNAP camp, which competed with the NSB and did not hesitate to make a personal attack on Mussert.
The text is clear: Anton Mussert was married to his aunt, the sister of his mother who was 18 years older. By many this was considered incestuous.
13 x 18 cm
Note: in the yellow circle the letter W can faintly be seen. The W of Queen Wilhelmina, a clear sign of resistance against the occupier. Naturally this photo was rejected by the NSB and therefore never published.
