On December 12, 1941, Anton Mussert, the leader of the NSB (Nationaal-Socialistische Beweging), visited Adolf Hitler in Berlin for the second time. During this visit, Mussert swore loyalty to Hitler, saying, "I swear to you, Adolf Hitler, as the German leader, loyalty until death". Mussert hoped to convince Hitler to merge the Netherlands and Flanders into a new Greater Netherlands, but Hitler was not interested
