Mussert Removed: A 1943 SS Event

Mussert cut out (from the photo)

Remarkable photo!

The photographer of this commemoration at Grebbeberg in 1943, SS Oberscharführer Sepp Fritz, captured this image showing the NSB leader Mussert on the left in his black NSB uniform. Due to differing perspectives between the SS and NSB, Mussert was folded out of the image, making it appear exclusively as an SS event. This subtly conveyed that the NSB did not belong there.

The two men in black uniforms with helmets were members of Mussert's bodyguard, and Mussert patiently awaited his turn to lay a wreath.

On the left, Waffen SS General Demelhuber looks at his wreath, while Seyss-Inquart had just laid his wreath.

The NSB newspaper VoVa reported this event with an overview photo.
