The Nederlandse Volksdienst (NVD), or Dutch People's Service, was established in July 1941 and was modeled after the Nationalsozialistische Volkswohlfahrt (NSV) in Germany. Under the supervision of the German occupation authorities, it centralized welfare and social services in the Netherlands.

The NVD provided assistance to Dutch civilians through a wide range of initiatives, including relief for bombing victims, the distribution of food and clothing, maternity care and baby layettes, youth dental care, and community nursing.

The Help Post for Mother and Child was one of the NVD's local welfare facilities, offering support and care to mothers and young children during the occupation.
