🪖 Why were children sent away?

There were a few main reasons in the Dutch context:

1. Protection from war danger

  • Bombings and military activity
  • Especially in cities or strategic areas

2. Food shortages (very important)

  • Severe shortages, especially later in the war
  • Children were sent to:
    • rural areas
    • farming families
