NSB Mayor, van Ravenswaay

'Van Rokkenswaay tot Billengraay'

The NSB mayor Cornelis van Ravenswaay behind his desk. He was appointed mayor of Utrecht in March 1942 at the recommendation of Seyss-Inquart. Just as before, as mayor of red Zaandam, he devoted himself wholeheartedly to the new order.

The antisemitic magazine “De Misthoorn” mockingly called him in its September 1941 issue: jhr K.A.P. Van Rokkenswaay tot Billengraay. In resistance literature, the phrase circulated: “Ladies, if you visit the mayor, don’t forget a lock on your trousers.”
