The V Aktie (V Action) was meant to convince the citizenry that the struggle against Russia would lead to victory. That offensive war against Russia, under the code name "Operation Barbarossa," began on June 22, 1941.

Interesting detail: white lines were applied to the four lampposts so that the posts could still be seen during blackout.
